When it comes to non-surgical facial rejuvenation, dermal fillers are one of the most popular treatments available today. At Renova Medical Aesthetics in Castle Rock, CO, our highly trained injectors specialize in creating natural, youthful results that enhance your features without making you look overdone.
Dermal fillers are soft, gel-like injectables that are placed beneath the skin to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are commonly used to treat under-eye hollows, lift and define cheekbones, volumize lips, soften lip lines, reduce nasolabial folds, correct facial asymmetry, and even rejuvenate aging hands.
Most modern fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin and joints. Popular brands include Juvederm, Restylane, and RHA Collection. Hyaluronic acid fillers are biocompatible, safe, and dissolvable, which means results can be reversed if necessary. Radiesse, another filler option, is made of calcium hydroxyapatite, which is biostimulatory and also naturally found in the body.

Dermal Filler Myths: Fact or Fiction With
Allie Edwards, MSN, FNP-C Founder of Renova Medical Aesthetics

There are many questions and misconceptions surrounding dermal fillers. Below, we break down some of the most common myths and clarify what is fact and what is fiction.
" Are most fillers are made up of products that are naturally occurring in your skin?”
Allie: Fact. Hyaluronic acid is produced by our bodies and can be found in areas such as our eyes, joints, and skin. Most dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, such as Juvederm Collection, RHA Collection, and Restylane. Hyaluronic acid fillers are a great option because they are found naturally occuring in the body and metabolizes the same way. They also have a very low risk of allergic reactions, again, due to their natural occurrence in the body. The other benefit of hyaluronic acid fillers is that they are dissolvable, so the treatment can be reversed if necessary. Radiesse, another popular filler, is made of calcium hydroxyapatite, another naturally occurring substance in our skin. Many dermal filler brands today are already formulated with 0.3% lidocaine to reduce pain during the procedure. Lidocaine can also help reduce swelling and bruising, promoting quicker patient recovery.
“Will one syringe treat multiple areas?”
Allie: The answer depends on the desired result. A single syringe may provide a subtle enhancement and can sometimes address more than one area, but full-face rejuvenation usually requires multiple syringes. Your injector will create a customized plan based on your specific goals and anatomy. At the end of the day, one syringe in the right hands can make a difference.
“Do fillers replace the volume we lose with age?”
Allie: This is true. As we age, we naturally lose bone, fat, and collagen in the face. This loss of structure leads to sagging, hollowness, and early jowling. Dermal fillers restore youthful contours by replacing lost volume in key areas such as the cheeks, lips, and temples.
“Are fillers unsafe?”
Allie: This depends on the provider. Dermal fillers are generally very safe in the hands of a skilled and medically trained injector. Risks are rare but can occur if filler enters a blood vessel. At Renova Medical Aesthetics, our injectors have advanced medical degrees, including BSN, RN, MSN, FNP-C, and DNP, and undergo extensive hands-on training to ensure the safest possible treatments.
“Does Lip filler look unnatural?”
Allie: This is a common misconception. Overfilled lips usually result from too much filler placed in a short period of time and poorly placed. When performed by an experienced injector, lip filler enhances the natural shape and maintains balance with the rest of the face.
“Do fillers correct facial imbalances?”
Allie: Fact. Dermal fillers can enhance facial symmetry and bring balance to your features. Strategic placement can sharpen the jawline, restore midface volume, and create harmonious proportions that look natural and refreshed.
“Do fillers last forever or disappear quickly?”
Allie: Neither is completely true. Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last between six and eighteen months. The exact duration depends on the area treated, the type of filler used, and how quickly your body metabolizes the product. High-motion areas such as the lips may break filler down faster than lower-motion areas such as the cheeks.
“Do Fillers make you look frozen?”
Allie: Fiction. Fillers add volume and structure but do not affect muscle movement. A “frozen” look is associated with overdone Botox, not dermal filler. Properly placed filler creates a refreshed and youthful appearance without looking stiff or unnatural.
“Are fillers are expensive?”
Allie: The cost of filler varies depending on the number of syringes and areas treated. One syringe typically costs between $700 and $1,000. Treating a single area, such as the lips, may only require one syringe, while restoring larger areas or multiple zones often requires several syringes. For those considering filler treatments, we recommend a consultation to create a personalized plan and receive a clear cost estimate.

We are excited to share a beautiful under-eye transformation featuring our very own esthetician, Kourtney. This before and after showcases the results following just one treatment using a combination of EZ Gel and dermal filler, expertly performed by Allie Edwards, NP. Under-eye concerns such as hollowing, volume loss, and dark circles are common and can contribute to a tired or aged appearance. To address this, Kourtney received a customized treatment plan that combined the regenerative properties of EZ Gel with the immediate volumizing effects of dermal filler.
EZ Gel is a bio-filler derived from the patient’s own blood. It is processed into a smooth gel that not only adds subtle volume but also stimulates the body’s natural collagen production over time. When paired with dermal filler, which is designed to instantly replenish lost volume and smooth under-eye hollows, this treatment delivers both immediate and long-lasting results. After just one session, Kourtney’s under-eye area appeared significantly brighter, more refreshed, and more youthful.
The procedure was performed by Allie Edwards, NP, who is known for her meticulous technique and focus on achieving natural-looking outcomes. Her expertise ensures that enhancements are subtle, balanced, and tailored to each individual’s features. This treatment is an excellent option for those looking to improve under-eye shadows and restore a more rested appearance without looking overdone.
